JR Group runs Gunma Campaign from July 1 through Septenber 30 to introduce travelers to Gunma's fruits and other special products, famous hot springs such as Kusatsu Onsen and Minakami Hot Springs, and many other attractions! When traveling around Gunma, remember to ride on a stream locomotive for a taste of Japanese history and to create some great memories.

During the campaign period, the D51 498 (commonly called the "Degoichi"), immensely popular among steam locomotive enthusiasts, and the C61 20 (the restoration of which is scheduled to be complete this summer) will be in service in Gunma as special event trains. These trains provide a nostalgic trip that only a steam locomotive can deliver.

Gunma Prefecture is easily accessible from the Tokyo area.
Travel from Tokyo to Takasaki, the gateway to Gunma, in as little as 50 minutes on the Nagano Shinkansen, or about 60 minutes on the Joetsu Shinkansen.
