JR Kanto Area Pass

The JR Kanto Area Pass is a discounted pass for unlimited rides in Tokyo and the surrounding Kanto area. Valid for three days, the pass is good for unlimited rides using reserved seats on ordinary cars on the Shinkansen bullet train, limited express and other trains. The JR Kanto Area Pass makes it easy to visit popular tourist destinations such as Mount Fuji, Izu and Karuizawa

Valid period of use: from Sunday, January 1, 2012 (on sale from Thursday, December 1, 2011)

Validity: Three consecutive days

Valid Train Routes*: JR East Lines, Tokyo Monorail, Izu Kyuko Line, Fuji Kyuko Line, Joshin Dentetsu Line, Saitama New Urban Transit Line (New Shuttle) – between Omiya and the Railway Museum

* The JR Kanto Area Pass is not valid on Tokaido Shinkansens and JR buses. Separate and/or additional fees are required for certain seat zones. Please be advised to visit here to see details before purchase.

Tokyo Transport Pass

If you would rather stick to Tokyo's metropolitan district, the Tokyo Transport Pass will be a better option for you. The pass is available only for tourists from abroad visiting Japan from December 2011 to January 2012. And it is as cheap as 2,500 yen for 2 days, and 3,000 yen for 3 days (both for adults).

The pass covers JR trains, Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway, Nippori-Toneri Liner, Toei Streetcar and Toei Bus within the free area. The ticket can be purchased at JR East Travel Service Centers at Narita & Haneda Airports.

<2 Day Pass>

Price: Adult 2,500 yen, Child 1,250 yen
Period of Sales: from December 1, 2011 to January 30, 2012

<3 Day Pass>

Price: Adult 3,000 yen, Child 1,500 yen
Period of Sales: from December 1, 2011 to January 29, 2012
