On September 7, 2013, the International Olympic Committee selected Tokyo as the host for the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics over Istanbul and Madrid. This will be the second time that Tokyo has received the privilege of hosting the Olympic games.
A leading global power in fields which range from technology to fashion, Tokyo promises an Olympics that will certainly be precedent setting for future Olympics. Eco-friendly planning and designs show how the utmost care and attention is being paid to concerns such as the conservation of resources, waste reduction, etc. For example, Tokyo plans to have 85% of all event venues within 5 miles from the athlete village and will concentrate all related events and activities into as compact an area as possible. Venues include sites used for previous Olympics as well as other existing facilities, such as the National Olympic Stadium and the Budokan.
Tokyo pledges a safe, efficient, exciting, and educational 2020 Olympic experience for all our athletes, spectators, and everyone else who will help to make these games an unforgettably glorious event!
